A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Crisanne for her High School Senior Portraits. We went to Quiet Waters Park the day after it rained cats and dogs. I was worried that there might not be any fall leaves left since it was so windy and rainy the day before. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Check it out:
Just a little reminder, for those of you who are currently Juniors in High School, next spring would be the perfect time to have your Senior Portraits taken. Schedule your Senior Portrait Session after the new year to ensure that you get the date you want. Go to my website: www.annewhitty.com to see samples and to get my contact information.

The B Family
I had the pleasure of photographing the B family at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. We really lucked out with the weather. It was definitely hot, but the sky was a beautiful blue. Mom wanted photos of her two sons before they went off to college. What a wonderful way to capture a great moment in their lives and to also make some new memories with their mom!

Little Angel
A couple of weeks ago my husband, daughter and I went to Wisconsin for my sister-in-law's wedding. It was such a beautiful day and I am so happy for my sister-in-law, her new husband, and their daughter. They make such a wonderful family.
I had the privilege of photographing the rehearsal at the church and the preparations before the wedding. I took this photograph below the morning of the wedding. My daughter was looking through the french doors of the sun room at her aunt and the other bridesmaids getting ready. I love this picture of her. To me it exudes her innocence and curiosity.

Jessica & Chris
I recently had the privilege to take prom portraits for some couples that attended Archbishop Spalding High School's prom. Jessica and Chris were one of those couples. They were so beautiful together. I had so much fun taking their portraits. I was so inspired by how much positive energy they had and how happy they looked together. Jessica's dress was amazing and Chris looked handsome in his tux. Here are a few photos from their portrait session:

Curly Girls
I hope all the Mother's out there had a wonderful Mother's Day. I know I did! I try not to blog about things other than photography but I'm going to make an exception today. I am always looking online for reviews for pretty much anything....restaurants, shops, hotels when I'm traveling, hair products, baby products, etc. I am a military wife so we move a lot. It is always a huge task to find a great hair salon, a highly recommended pediatrician for my daughter, or a dentist. I am sure all of you military wives can relate. So when I do find a stylist, pediatrician, or dentist that I love I spread the word. My Mother's Day gift from my husband and daughter was a trip to the salon followed by a shopping spree. My husband found a hair salon online called Georgia Alan Salon, in Arnold, Maryland not too far from Annapolis. It had gotten great reviews and they do a Deva cut for women with curly hair. I've had the craziest curly hair my whole life. It seems to have a mind of its own. There are days when I actually contemplate shaving my head. Seriously! They charge $60 for the Deva cut as long as you don't get your hair cut by the owner, Patrik. If you do it costs $130. I'm all about saving money ladies so I got my hair cut by Kristen. She did an amazing job! By the time all was said and done I looked like a totally different person. My curls were defined and soft. I couldn't believe it. During the cut she told me exactly what she was doing so that I could make my hair look like that every day. It's all about how you shampoo and condition your hair and the products you use. Just by chance, I use the same products that they were using. The products are called DevaCurl. Now here is why I absolutely love this salon (other than the fact that they totally transformed my hair.) I use a different brand of hair gel. While my hair was drying, Kristen asked Patrik about the gel I was using. He said that the brand was just as good as DevaCurl and should have the same affect on my hair. She didn't try to sell me a bottle of the DevaCurl gel. One thing I can't stand is when people try to pressure you into buying something you don't need. It's been four days since my hair cut, I've been doing exactly what they told me to do, and my hair still looks and feels great. Needless to say, I am very happy with Georgia Alan Salon. They will definitely be getting my business again.

A Day in DC
A couple of weeks ago my husband decided to take me on a date to DC to see the cherry blossoms and go to a couple of museums. As we were driving to the train station it started to hail. Off in the distance we could see blue skies so we figured the storm had already hit DC. By the time we got to the station it stopped raining. It looked like it was going to turn out to be a lovely day. We got off the train at the Smithsonian exit and headed straight for the cherry blossoms. They were absolutely beautiful. This is the first time I had seen them and it was well worth it.
I brought along two cameras, one was a vintage Ansco Viking F6.3 folding camera and the other was my trusty Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Elph. I've had the Canon for years and it's never let me down. It's the perfect size. It fits in my purse which allows me to have a camera with me wherever I go. I just received the Ansco Viking from one of my husband's relatives. They collect antiques and were kind enough to give me the Ansco Viking and a Kodak Brownie. The Ansco Viking is quite compact as well. It is only 3" x 6" and fit nicely in my purse. This was the first time I was trying out the Ansco Viking. I took quite a few pictures of the cherry blossoms with it. Unfortunately, I went to get the film developed today and the whole roll was blank. However, I took some pictures with the Canon anticipating that the Ansco Viking wouldn't work. Below is my favorite picture from that day.
As you can see from the picture, it looks like a storm is coming from behind the Washington Monument. Not long after that picture was taken it started to hail. Luckily there had been a 10 mile run earlier that day and there were still booths and a stage set up. My husband and I found shelter on the stage along with one hundred of our closest friends. It was very surreal to see everyone running for shelter. The hail storm lasted about 15 minutes and then we were on our way to the National Portrait Gallery. I highly recommend the National Portrait Gallery. When we went they had an exhibition about photographers who photographed their family's. I loved seeing that exhibition because it gave a very intimate look at the photographers private lives. It makes you see that even though these photographers are famous they live pretty normal lives like the rest of us. I really enjoyed one photographers project that she did with her daughter. Every morning for about ten years they would take a photograph together. The photos she picked to display were great because you could really see the good and bad of their relationship.
We ended our date at Jaleo. Jaleo is a Spanish tapas restaurant in DC. I've always had a weakness for tapas. I have to say, Jaleo was fabulous! Their sangria was excellent and every dish we tried was so good. I highly recommend it. I would also recommend making reservations. We got there around 5pm and it was already packed. Luckily there was room at the bar. It was actually a lot of fun sitting at the bar. All in all it was a wonderful date! I can't wait to go back to DC!

New Beginnings
Welcome to my photography blog. Today is a big day for me. I am starting my portrait photography business in Annapolis, Maryland. I moved here last December with my husband and daughter. So far, it's been great. I love the people, I love being so close to DC, and I love the atmosphere of Annapolis. I feel so blessed to be living such a great life in such a gorgeous place.
I've been taking portraits for the past two years when I lived in Monterey, California. I loved every minute of it. While I was there I also took photography classes with some of the best photographers in the area. I learned so much and I realized that I will continue to learn about photography every time I step outside with my camera. I got to work with a lot of amazing families while I was living in Monterey. I especially enjoyed working with the pregnant moms and their families. It was such a privilege to be able to capture those special moments with their loved ones. You can see their portraits at my website, www.annewhitty.com.
If you or someone you know would like more information about Anne Whitty Photography, please visit my website and fill out the contact form. I look forward to hearing from you!
